Sharing our Wisdom with Sophie Hunter.

Join us for a workshop that deep dives us into noticing how we've learnt the really important things in life, and who we learnt them from.  Come with your child, your parent, your grandparent, or significant carer from whom you learn and have learnt life’s lessons.

In this intergenerational workshop, you'll explore the profound ways we learn life's most important lessons and the significant people who teach them to us. Come with a loved one – child, parent, grandparent, or other – and celebrate the spring equinox and Mother's Day through creative reflection and wisdom gathering. Together, you'll create the first pages of your own "Receipt Book," a personal anthology of wisdom.

Originally, Receipt Books were handwritten anthologies passed down through generations of women. They contained precious recipes for medicines, well-being, and life itself. Sophie's workshop revives this ancient practice for the 21st century.

What wisdom have you gathered in your life? What new seeds are you planting this season?

  • “My practice involves creating and holding space for others to imagine, pause, review, reflect and create.   I weave spaces where people feel connected, inspired and safe enough to listen – to themselves, to others, to the world around them. My work focuses on the telling of and listening to stories from past, present, and future, and on finding connection between them.”

  • Open House Receipt Book workshops are a creative way to reflect on seasonal changes throughout the year.

Our ancestors lived in tune with the seasons, celebrating the natural cycles of life. Spring and summer were times of activity and expansion, while autumn and winter offered rest and inward reflection. Today, the pressure to maintain constant productivity often disconnects us from these natural rhythms, leaving us feeling drained.

Taking time to reflect on the cycles in our own lives can help us reconnect with nature's flow, trusting that each season brings its own lessons. In the 16th century, a Receipt Book was passed from mother to daughter, filled with wisdom about living well, based on the natural world. Artist Sophie Hunter has adapted this practice for the 21st century, offering it as a tool for creative reflection and wisdom-gathering.

    • What have you learned this season that will guide you through the year ahead?

    • What would your Receipt Book contain?

    • What wisdom have you gathered from your own life or ancestors?
