This is a strength class - a class to activate our physical strength and ignite our inner fire.
Join us as we learn the craft of calisthenics with Adam Mason. Calisthenics is a form of strength training that utilises an individual's body weight as resistance to perform movement of strength and balance. This class is aimed to develop full body control for anybody wanting to learn skills such as the handstand, planche, muscle up, front lever and more. Adam will break down and work with movement progressions as we build up body awareness and strength.
Calisthenics means Beautiful Strength. The word calisthenics comes from the ancient Greek words κάλλος (kállos), which means "beauty", and σθένος (sthenos), meaning "strength".

Calisthenics for me is an expression for my body, I enjoy a gym setting but there is a higher sense of freedom when you can turn your body into its very own gym. No limitations of equipment or location, you can workout anywhere with just your unique body with Calisthenics.
It can be quite intimidating when it comes to starting calisthenics as you may not know where to start when you see the advanced calisthenic exercises, but it is my job to break them down and work with the progressions as we build up body awareness and strength.
Calisthenics, yoga, hand balancing are separate disciplines but they all have crossover and complement each other. I have practiced these 3 disciplines over the years and have found they bring me freedom to move and express my body. I resonate with the practice of callisthenics due to its ability to activate raw strength (yang energy). In 2008 I took a deep dive into learning calisthenic progressions, correct execution, biomechanics of how the human body responds to the positions of the calisthenic movements and went on and became a coach. Now I have a vision of creating a calisthenic community within the Peak District. It is an up and coming movement training and is getting a lot more popular over the UK, competitions, events and teams are on the rise so it would be great to create our very own community within the Peak District!
